FAQS

What style of therapy/model do you use?

I was trained in using Integrative Systemic Therapy (IST) at Northwestern University through their Marriage and Family Therapy Program. What this means is that I pull from a number of different therapeutic models as applicable for different individuals and situations and I consider various systems and contexts that might be impacting the person in front of me. This includes systems/identity features including relationships, family, culture, gender/sex, sexuality, economic status, age, and religion.

Most importantly, though, I practice with an existential and relational mindset, prioritizing building a strong foundational relationship with my clients that allows them to ask me directly for what they need from me in the process in order to achieve the goals they have for themselves.

Do you prescribe medication or offer medication management?

I am not able to prescribe medication or engage in medication management. If it is determined through the course of treatment that medication may be a helpful option, I will assist you in finding a referral for a practitioner who can provide that service.

Do you provide a diagnosis?

I am able to assess and diagnose according to criteria provided in the DSM-V. If you are using insurance, I am required to provide you with a diagnosis which I will discuss with you in the spirit of transparency. If you have questions about diagnosis or are seeking a particular assessment, I encourage you to talk with me about it. If an assessment, treatment, or diagnosis is beyond my scope of practice, I will assist in making a referral to a professional that is qualified to assist.

Do you take insurance?

I currently am in network with the following insurance plans:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO

  • Blue Choice

  • Aetna HMO

  • Aetna PPO

  • United Healthcare

  • Cigna/Evernorth

If you have questions about whether I am in network with your insurance or what the cost per session would be, please talk with me about it. The cost is different depending on your insurance plan and any copays, coinsurance, deductibles, or out of pocket maximums that may apply. Mental health coverage is sometimes different than what you would typically pay for other services, but if you call the phone number on your insurance card they will be able to tell you the cost for an in-network, outpatient mental health provider.

How much does it cost if I pay out of pocket (without insurance?)

My out of pocket rate is $170 for a 55 minute session. However, I also offer reduced rate sessions (on a sliding scale) at a first come first serve basis, which are meant to be relative to an individual’s ability to pay.

I have a set number of these spots available on my caseload at a given time, but I encourage you to please feel free to reach out and ask if it’s an option.

What if I miss a session or am unable to make it?

There is no charge for a cancellation with 24 hours notice or in the case of an emergency. Generally, though, if you do not show up for a scheduled session or communicate with me about it, there will be charge of $100, and a charge of $50 for sessions that are cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. These fees are not covered by insurance.

When you book a session with me, I set aside that time for you. If you cancel a session within 24 hours, there is a better chance that I am able to offer that slot to someone else who can use it.

Of course I understand that sometimes things happen, and scheduling can be more unpredictable depending on your individual situation. I like to be as flexible as I can with this, so if you have concerns please bring them to me.

What If I am not located in the State of Illinois, can I still see you?

At this time I am only licensed in the state of Illinois and able to see clients who are located in/have a permanent home address there.

How long are sessions? How often do I see a therapist?

Sessions are typically 55 minutes long, but exceptions can be made for shorter session times. Everyone is different and I am flexible to what is needed for each individual person. I am available for sessions biweekly, weekly, and monthly or as needed, but I typically see people weekly at least initially in order to build a solid foundational relationship.
